AS Foundation Portfolio: September 2010

This is a medium long shot and it’s tightly framed so that it emphasise her body shape makes her the centre of attention, this medium long shot is typical of fashion magazines such as Elle and Cosmopolitan it has been used so we can see the other objects in the photograph that she is interacting with and it’s also used so we can admire what she is wearing. The image has been framed with a high angle so we are given the impression that we’re dominating her, the lighting is hitting her body to emphasise her curves and body, the fact that the emphasis is on her body is shows that this appealing to men.

In the picture she appears to be wearing school shirt which is opened to expose her in a bra and hotpants The school shirt has intertextual references to her first music video when she was a school girl, and she was innocent. Her outfit clashes with the props because she doesn’t look child like any more. Britney may be holding onto her childhood as we can see her grasping tightly a cuddly to but the media amongst other things may be pushing her into womanhood showing that she is ‘Not a girl, but not yet a woman’. She may be stuck in the middle not sure what to do, which in a way shows her innocence because she can be quite impressionable. Her image is appealing to teenage boys or men because it’s very sexy and showing of her body.

The setting appears to be silk bed sheets this shows that even though she is innocent in the picture she may have another not so innocent side this interlinks with her costume and suggests that she may be slightly promiscuous. She may feel all ‘grown up’ but she is still a child because she is holding onto cuddly toy.

A phone has been used as a Prop showing the audience that just like the ‘average’ teenager she likes to talk to her friends, this shows her normality. This is quite a sexy picture and that fact that she’s on silk bed sheets make it very lusty, so she may be talking to a boy, also a ‘cuddly’ toy has been used to emphasise her childlikeness. From these props the audience is lead to believe she is blameless and not decided on whether she wants to be a little girl or a woman. On one side of her she has the cuddly toy and on the other side she has a phone meaning that sure s stuck in the middle and not sure whether to be the innocent little girl that some people want to be or the woman that she is turning into.

There are intertexual references because Britney appears to be holding close to her a Teletubbie shows how innocent and pure Britney is as she is still only 17.

The colour Pink has been used as the background which shows that she is girly and feminine and also embraces her innocence and child likeness. Her Bra is the only all black thing and which makes us draw attention to her breasts also the lighting is hitting her chest are also making us feel drawn to that region.

It’s been cropped so that she’s in the middle and the words are surrounding her to make her the main focus and the frame is framed tightly to also emphasise that she’s the centre of attention. It’s a long Mid Shot to enhance her curves.

Britney is posed arching her back which is emphasising her curves and making her seem more libertine. Her body is positioned away from the camera showing that there is part of her that she doesn’t want to or is not ready to show the rest of the world but she’s looking directly at the camera showing that she is still confident with the media. She is dressed in white and this contrasts with her being naked her posing making the image seem ironic because the white makes her seem a virgin and innocent but her body shows that she wants to draw attention towards her breasts and butt. She seems to want a close, personal and intimate relationship with the reader. She wants the reader to lust over her picture it’s a Low angle mid shot so it looks like we’re looking up at her, highlighting her self confidence and vanity. She wants the reader to feel lured in by her picture.

Britney is in a place where everything is white this may suggest she’s is in a nice, pure and innocent phase/place in her life.

It’s a high key lighting to make her stand out and to make her the centre of attention. It’s used to accentuate her curves and make her sexier.

The background and clothing is white, white usually has strong connotations with heaven and innocence by using white they’re trying to tell the audience she is innocent, pure, angelic and vulnerable.

The colour white is what a bride wears on her wedding day so that all eyes are on her, Britney sis wearing white here because she wants to draw the attention of the audience making her the subject and it gives her a higher status like a bride has or an angel.

The image has been chosen so the audience can see Britney’s facial expression we can see in the picture that she seems very serious and quite hurt. The use of black and white makes the image more striking and it may suggest that there is no ‘colour’ in her life everything is serious, dull and black and white. The use of black and white is significant because otherwise the picture wouldn’t be as powerful.

The image has been cropped to show an extreme close up of her face to give the audience an intense confident tough glare. All you can see is her face and you can barely even see her hair, this may be suggesting that she is cutting out all the superficial material objects and she appears to be wearing light/no makeup, she has a serious expression showing that this is all about Britney now and we are stripped down to the real raw her.

She wants to really engage with the audience and she wants to give tell the audience that she’s serious the anchorage text suggests that there she has gone through some kind of ‘tragedy’ which means she has resulted in a great loss or misfortune and this reflects on her face and strongly supports the anchorage text.
